Key objectives of the NAACAM Show 2019 were to deliver a premier event which –

• Facilitated localisation, intra-African trade/industrial linkages, and exports from sectors determined to be globally competitive;

• Enabled Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and technology partnerships;

• Promoted the development and growth of Black-owned suppliers in South Africa; and

• Facilitated outcomes-based dialogue.

Strongly supported by the eThekwini Municipality, the Automotive Supply Chain Competitiveness Initiative (Primary funder the Department of Trade and Industry, National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa, National Union of Metalworkers of South African and NAACAM) and Trade and Investment KZN, unaudited figures from the event suggest that industry was more engaged than the inaugural initiative in 2017 and extracted significantly more value from participation.

The 2.5-day conference programme focusing on the issues most important to the local automotive industry was delivered by 52 C-suite executives from both the public and private sectors. Framed by the South African Automotive Masterplan’s (SAAM) direction, the core focal areas of the conference programme were:
